2018 Ohio State Fair Scholarship Endowment Recipients

Troy Elwer, Delphos FFA
Troy plans to attend The Ohio State University to major in Agriscience Education. He has been actively participating at the Ohio State Fair since 2009. In 2011, Troy exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Market Barrow and in 2015 he exhibited the Grand Champion Market Barrow. He has also been the Outstanding Market Exhibitor in his age division six times. In his application he stated, ” I aspire to become an agricultural educator because I have surrounded myself with agriculture my entire life and it has molded me into the man I am today. Growing up on a small family farm and being a 4th generation farmer have greatly influenced my career goals and choices. I have been a part of the FFA for four years and it has changed my life dramatically. This organization has helped me to prepare for my future.”

Sarah Lehner, Buckeye Valley FFA
Sarah plans to attend The Ohio State University to major in Animal Sciences. She has actively participated in the Ohio State Fair since 2011. Each year she participates in several skillathon competitions and judging clinics. She also exhibits dairy cattle. In her application, she shared, “I can honestly say that nothing motivates, excites or inspires me at the same magnitude that the agricultural industry does. By shaping me into a bold leader and communicator, providing me with the opportunity for early experience in my career field and equipping me with the technical skills necessary for career success, FFA has prepared me to make real, valuable contributions to the industry that I love.”

Seth Wasilewski, Shelby FFA
Seth plans to attend The Ohio State University to major in Agriscience Education. He has been exhibiting at the Ohio State Fair since 2010. In 2016, he exhibited the Reserve Champion Commercial Ewe and won the Grand Champion Senior Showman Award. He also was the third place overall outstanding market lamb exhibitor. In his application he stated, “I  hope to one day mentor my students and teach them not only about agriculture, but also valuable life lessons.”


In 2016, the Ohio State Fair Scholarship Endowment Program was formed to provide scholarships to FFA students who exhibit at the Ohio State Fair and are planning to study an agriculturally related area of study.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Participation in the Ohio State Fair during the summer is required. This includes livestock showing and/or judging, sanctioned 4-H/FFA projects and participation in the Livestock Skillathon.
  • Recipients must major in an agriculturally related field of study and be a current Ohio FFA member.
  • Recipients must maintain a minimum of 2.0 semester GPA and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Recipients much acknowledge scholarship with a thank you letter to the Ohio Expo Commission.
