Professional Development

The Agricultural Education Service provides teachers of agriculture with numerous opportunities to hone their skills in an effort to stay current with the latest changes in the industry. The following technical updates are provided to teachers at a nominal cost through collaborative efforts between the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Association for Agricultural Educators, The Ohio State University and Wilmington College.

Agricultural Education Summer Conference

When: June 15-17, 2021
Where: The Ohio State University – Wooster Campus
The Agricultural Education Summer Conference is a professional conference designed for teachers of agriculture to network and get the latest on classroom resources. The content delivered ata this conference is standards based, industry and post-secondary connect and student centered. Teachers are issued contact hours for their participation and are encouraged to attend the Ohio Association of Agricultural Educators banquet and activities. Consider attending this exciting professional development  – it will not disappoint!

Small Engines Field School

When: June 22-24, 2021
Where: The Ohio State University – Wooster Campus
If you are an instructor who is new to teaching small engine technology, or a teacher looking to boost your confidence then this is where you’ll want to start! This 3-day course should arm you with enough knowledge and confidence to conduct your own basic small engine class. The program is a curriculum that follows lesson plans designed for high schools and middle schools. We teach the curriculum to you so you get the benefit of our technique along with on-going discussion as to what we aim to accomplish with each topic. You will perform a complete teardown and reassembly of a horizontal shaft Overhead Valve (OHV) engine. The engine is a springboard to all the different systems that are required for a gas engine to operate. In addition, you will receive an assortment of training materials from PowerPoint presentations, teardown scripts and more, so that you will be able to teach the same concepts and procedures in your own classroom. Mechanical Principles Welding Workshop

When: June 29-July 1, 2021
Where: Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, 400 Trade Square East, Troy, OH 45373
If you are an instructor who is new to teaching mechanical principles, or a teacher looking to boost your confidence with teaching welding then this is where you’ll want to start! This 3-day workshop will provide a basic understanding of the Physics and Metallurgy of Welding and the Joining and Cutting of Metals with Heat including demonstrations and hands-on practices focusing on the competencies defined within Outcomes 5.9 and 5.10 of the Mechanical Principles Course. Attendees will receive specialized curriculum developed by the professional welding instructors at the Hobart Institute of Welding. Consider attending this exciting professional development.  Due to Covid-19 Social Distancing Guidelines, only 20 spots are available. We will accept the first 20 enrollments and then create a waiting list.
