Professional Development

The Agricultural Education Service provides teachers of agriculture with numerous opportunities to hone their skills in an effort to stay current with the latest changes in the industry. The following technical updates are provided to teachers at a nominal cost through collaborative efforts between the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Association for Agricultural Educators, The Ohio State University and Wilmington College.

National Finalist Showcase Professional Development

When: October 26, 2019
Where: Tolles Career and Technical Center
The National Finalist Showcase Professional Development will offer 5 contact hours for teachers to participate in Finalist Frenzy as a panel judge in an area of your interest: Proficiency/Star Finalist, Agriscience Fair Finalist, Model of Excellence/Premier Chapter Award Finalist. See first hand Ohio’s best students and programs as they prepare for national competition. This will be the only opportunity for teachers to see what national applications and finalists look like before evaluation season begins. Frenzy is a great opportunity to learn the process in the award system, collaborate with fellow educators, and interact with business and industry professionals. We hope many of you will take advantage of this opportunity and look forward to seeing you and anyone you can bring along for this significant even in preparing Ohio’s next national winners.

Ag & Industrial Power Professional Development

When: November 14-15, 2019
Where: John Deere Training Center, Plain City, Ohio
This two-day professional development will center on the use of non-invasive diagnostics and trouble shooting. Highlighting competencies in courses from the A1 Industrial Power Technology Pathway through hands-on training with industry partners. Key updates Digital Multimeter Certification, Non-Invasive Diagnostics Resources, and EETC Certification.

New Teacher Success Series – Part II

When: January 3, 2020
Where: Ohio FFA Center
Time: 9 am-4 pm
This series of workshops are designated for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year teachers in all Ag Ed programs, pathways, and licensure venues who value professional development opportunities to collaborate with teachers statewide in an effort to become more efficient and prepared for the early years of the teaching profession. We will meet three times annually in order to provide continued support throughout the year reflecting current issues and upcoming activities in the Ag Ed calendar throughout the school year. This workshop will focus on the FFA circle of the three circle model of Career Technical Education. Topics include but are not limited to Proactive Administration and Parent Communication, Developing Student and Chapter Award Applications, Integrating the Calendar in Planning, Chapter Event Planning, CDE Planning and Q&A (or participant topics).

New Teacher Success Series – Award Applications

When: January 18 or January 19, 2020 
Where: Embassy Suites Hotel
Time: 1 pm-8 pm
This series of workshops are designated for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year teachers in all Ag Ed programs, pathways, and licensure venues who value professional development opportunities to collaborate with teachers statewide in an effort to become more efficient and prepared for the early years of the teaching profession. In an effort to become more efficient and prepared, this workshop at 212-360 will focus on award applications. You will be given the chance to receive assistance with the applications you bring with you. This will be more of a question and answer session.

National Chapter Critique

When: May 21, 2020
Where: Ohio FFA Center
This application critique will focus on the best practices identified during the National Selection process maximize the readability and overall quality of National Chapter Award applications. A strategic review of the scoring rubrics will be provided during the critique.

Agricultural Education Summer Conference

When: June 9-11, 2020 
Where: The Ohio State University – Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center
The Agricultural Education Summer Conference is a professional conference designed for teachers of agriculture to network and get the latest on classroom resources. The content delivered ata this conference is standards based, industry and post-secondary connect and student centered. Teachers are issued contact hours for their participation and are encouraged to attend the Ohio Association of Agricultural Educators banquet and activities. Consider attending this exciting professional development  – it will not disappoint!

Hobart Institute of Welding for the Agriscience Instructor

When: Summer 2020 
Where: Hobart Institute of Welding, Tory, Ohio
If you are an instructor who is relatively new to teaching or needs a refresher on teaching welding processes, then this is where you’ll want to start! This 3-day course should arm you with enough knowledge and confidence to conduct your own introduction to welding process class. This professional development will focus on the welding processes found in the Agricultural & Environmental Systems Career Field.
