Professional Development

The Agricultural Education Service provides teachers of agriculture with numerous opportunities to hone their skills in an effort to stay current with the latest changes in the industry. The following technical updates are provided to teachers at a nominal cost through collaborative efforts between the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Association for Agricultural Educators, The Ohio State University, Wilmington College and Central State University.

Animal Reproduction Professional Development

When: April 17, 2023 – 9 am-3 pm
Where: Select Sires, Plain City, OH and Global STEM Academy, Springfield, OH
This one-day professional development opportunity is open to any teacher in the state of Ohio. This workshop will focus specifically on animal reproduction and lab techniques. The day will begin with a tour of Select Sires, Inc. and a lab exercise led by Select Sires staff members. Participants will stop for lunch at Der Dutchman in Plain City (included in cost) on their way to Global Impact STEM Academy (GISA). At GISA, teachers will be led through three labs related to the Select Sires tour that can be implemented in various classes in the A0, A2 and A3 pathways. Each teacher will also take home a lab supply kit to conduct the labs with their students.

New Teacher Success Series

When: May 15, 2023
Where: Ohio FFA Center, Columbus, OH
The New Teacher Success Series workshops are designed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year teachers in all Agricultural Education programs, pathways ad licensure venues who value professional development opportunities. Attendees will collaborate with teachers statewide to become more efficient and prepared for the early years of the teaching profession. This is the third meeting of the series this school year to support teachers through current issues and upcoming activities in the Agricultural Education calendar.

Ohio Agricultural Education Summer Conference

When: June 13-15, 2023 
Where: The Ohio State University CFAES Wooster Campus
The Agricultural Education Summer Conference is an exciting 3-day professional conference designed for Ohio teachers of agriculture to network and get the latest classroom updates and resources. The content delivered at this conference is standards based and student centered. Teachers are issued contact hours for their participation and college credit is available for purchase through OAAE’s partnership with Ashland University. NEW this year, conference will include immersive experiences options on day 3 to provide larger curriculum takeaways. 2023 AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION COLLEGE GRADUATES-All 2023 Agricultural Education college graduates are invited to attend the 2023 Ohio Ag Ed Summer Conference and your registration cost is waived. Registration opens May 8, 2023 by emailing Brenda Correll and closes May 26, 2023. Please keep in mind that attendance is expected if you register.
PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS-In total, 20 spots with waived registration cost are available for pre-service teachers, or first-through fourth-year students at Central State University, The Ohio State University and Wilmington College planning to pursue a career as an agricultural educator. Registration for Pre-Service teachers opens on May 15, 2023 by emailing Brenda Correll and closes May 26, 2023. Please keep in mind that attendance is expected if you register.
